About This Place

Monita’s Tacos is a vibrant Mexican food truck gem nestled at 2141 Crystal Grove Dr in Lakeland, FL, delivering an authentic and flavorful taste of Mexico with every bite. Celebrated by locals and visitors alike, this cozy spot offers a menu that's as rich and inviting as the culture it represents.

Specializing in classic Mexican fare with a modern twist, Monita’s Tacos is best known for their irresistible Quesabirrias—tender, slow-cooked beef wrapped in cheese-filled tortillas, served with flavorful consommé for dipping. These tacos sing with layers of savory depth, yet maintain a gentle spice level, thoughtfully complemented by house-made red and verde salsas, perfect even for those who shy away from heat. The Steak Nachos with Cheese provide a hearty, cheesy indulgence, while the Pulled Pork enchants with its smoky, melt-in-your-mouth texture.

For a refreshing contrast, the Mangonada is a standout—a vibrant mango-based treat balanced with a hint of tangy chili, perfect for cooling down on a sunny Florida day. Guests also rave about the fresh Fruit Cup and their unique beverages, including various juices and a tempting caramel drink that adds a sweet finish to any meal.

While Monita’s operates out of a food truck, the atmosphere they create is anything but fleeting. Visitors describe a warm, welcoming environment where every visit feels like coming home. The smile and genuine care from the team make waiting in line worth it, and the limited outdoor seating offers a casual, authentic dining experience under the open sky. Though seating is minimal and parking can be tight, the friendly vibe and exceptional flavors invite you to linger a little longer.

Reviewers like Nate Wojtasinski marvel at the surprising 4.9-star rating supported by over 200 glowing reviews, praising the rich flavors and efficient service. Regular patrons express heartfelt connections to the food and hospitality, highlighting the comfort and cultural pride baked into every dish. Some note that the quesabirrias hit just the right balance of spice for a wide range of palates, and the accompanying salsas elevate the experience without overpowering.

A few visitors mention that the outdoor setting and brief closing time (around 6 pm) mean you need to plan your visit, but those who do consistently leave impressed and eager to return. Even with modest setup, Monita’s Tacos delivers a memorable culinary adventure that captures the heart of Mexican street food, making it a must-visit spot for anyone craving soulful, fragrant, and satisfying tacos in Lakeland.

If you’re exploring the city or simply craving authentic Mexican cuisine with a personal touch, Monita’s Tacos promises a delicious escape that combines culture, comfort, and unforgettable flavor—all served with a side of genuine smiles.

I thought there is no way a food truck has 4.9 stars with over 200 reviews. OMG! If you’ve never been, go. If you’re from out of town like me, you MUST go. I got the Birria ramen and quesobirrias. So much flavor. Not very spicy at all (which I was thankful for) but it also comes with red and verde salsa. It took around 10-15 minutes to make and parking is limited. They also close at 6p I think. Get it while it’s hot! I will be back mi amigos!

Every visit to this taco spot feels like coming home. The atmosphere wraps you in warmth, the service is always genuine, and the food… it’s more than just tacos—it’s comfort, culture, and care all on a plate. You can feel the love the cooks put into every dish, and it shows in every bite. The people taking your order greet you with a smile, lifting your mood no matter how your day’s been. The flavors bring back memories, and the experience makes you feel seen and appreciated. It’s not just a meal—it’s a little celebration every time I walk through the door, and I’m grateful for the care and heart they put into everything.

I absolutely loved my food from this little food truck! There are about three parking spaces and two picnic tables outside if you want to eat there. It’s outside of gas station and on the corner of a side street. But I was highly impressed with their quesabirria tacos and their prices! I loved both of their green and red hot sauces so they are not too spicy for me(I can’t take a lot so it was perfect ). The elote cup was good, but had nacho cheese on top, which I just prefer the mayonnaise. The tamarind Agua Fresca was clearly freshly made because it had a lot of of the pulp and even some of the skin in it. I would’ve preferred it to be strained or blended better, but it was still fresh and very good. Very polite and good service. I will definitely be back! I only wish they stayed open later at night so I could come for dinner more often since I don’t get off of work that early.

Clean place, ok food, good service. The food was ok, not the best seasoning but not the worst either. My birria tacos had an aftertaste that I couldn't identify. It is not a restaurant. It is a place for a fast bite, tables on the street, and good mangonada. I didn't love my orchata drink.

First time trying on Tuesday and it was pretty good! I ordered 4-5 asada tacos and the Mangonada drink you see pictured. The tacos I would rate 8.5/10 and the Mangonada 5/10 next time I will order without the seasoning they put in it, and add condensed milk.

Absolutely amazing. We stopped by today and got birria ramen, quesabirria, birria tostadas, steak tacos, and a mangonada. This was so much food and filled up my 2 teenage boys, my husband and myself. The flavor was excellent and the consomme sauces pushed it over the top. Thank you for including extra limes and I can't wait to stop by again!! Sorry for not getting better pics, we ate it while it was hot and fresh.

This is a great spot to grab a quick lunch. They serve the best birria tacos and their tortas do not fall short. Super nice people running the truck. Clean picnic tables to sit down and enjoy the bounty.

I had the most amazing Quesadilla here! Simple ingredients. Honest flavors. Spicy and flavorful sauces.... It also came with Birria sauce, which I didn't expect. The service was fast and very friendly. I ate in my car, but then went back for a cup of corn (esquitos) and that was very good too To be fair, my 5 star rating is a comparison of similar food trucks. This one is stationary and easy to find. I really recommend trying their food here!!
